I really enjoyed my time in Aden and would love to hear from anyone who knew me during the period I was there, 1962 -1964. My maiden name was Hymers and I lived in Maalla then in Waterloo Lines with my mum, dad and two sisters, Janie and Rosemary.
I would also like to trace my bridesmaid and best friend at the time, Angela Siggery. If anyone knows of her present whereabouts, I would be pleased to have any info.
Keep up the good work Eric, we really appreciate it that you've taken the trouble to bring back some good memories of our youth.

I would appreciate any contact from anyone who remembers me. I left in early 1962 to attend boarding school in Blighty. Both my sisters Lynn and Chris attended the primary school and Lynn moved into the secondary School in 1961. We lived in Crater, moving to Maala and finally Khormaksar.

How'r you all?.
Well here I am trying to update my entry of 2003. We arrived in Aden around 1958. I must then have been 13-14 years old and returned to the UK when I was about 15 +. We flew out there, as my Brother informs me, on a Britannia, and I know we returned on the SS Nevasa. All-together we must have been there two years +. Anyway I have had a bit more time over the last few weeks and have found a bunch of old photos from our time in Aden. Most are of my family, but a few are of friends.
I have one photo taken at school. In the photo is Myself, a lad named Edward Burns and a lad named Chris Flear.
Now Kathryn Cooke, Hi! Kathryn(big wave), you mention an Eddie Burns in you entry. Could this be the same one?. I have transferred the photo to Disk now so could send it by E-Mail to you.
Now, another photo I have is of a lass who I think is Virginia or Ginna. Hi Ginna another (big wave). I read your entry and I think it's you. Its taken at one of the swimming pools. I cant remember the pool. I also have this on disk and would like you to see it. I could send it by E-Mail to you.
I have spent hours over the last few days reading all the entries, sometimes twice, and it has taken me back to the past and to a time that we all seem to have loved and lived to the full.
Almost every entry has the comment "Best times I ever had"
I think they were.
I love the phrase "Aden Brats" Perhaps we were.
Keep well everyone.
Kindest regards
Dave Kader

I was in Aden Sep 59 - Sep 63. I loved the place and have some wonderful memories. I went to the Convent School but thanks to Eric and this site I've found several old 'Khormaksar Youth Club' friends, Pat Davies, Kathy Sullivan, Jane Maisey, Ginna Lewis (all maiden names), Pete Lysons and a few more friends from the rest of my time there (you know who you are!). It's been wonderful to build on friendships formed so long ago. I'm still trying to find Janet Caldwell who was my best friend when I left. She went to the Convent School but her brother Michael went to Khormaksar, and their Dad worked for Caltex. Anyone know of their whereabouts?

Just found your site - I am an OK myself, 1965 to late evacuation. I lived opposite the Isthmus School next to Waterloo Barracks from where I picked up the bus ( armed guards as I'm sure you remember ) to school.
I spent most afternoons fishing from Khormaksor Beach or swimming at Gold Mohur Club. My father was a civilian working for the Adenise Govt in both Ma'alla and Crater, despite the unrest.
Somewhere I still have the old dhow badge ( complete with press studs for shirt pocket ) and some photos. If I can locate them then I'll try to send to your site - someone might recognise friends or themselves.
Good luck with the site anyway.

Mr Scott was headmaster, his daughter was called Libby, there was also a teacher called Mr spelling and a lady teacher who used to take us to visit a ship we had adopted. Remember Nona Miller and Sarnia Dewhirst. Back to the UK in 1960 (boarding school)but came out most holidays. 1965 most memorable-the officers club-the parties-the girls, met Pat Gowing the love of my life(where are you now?)my best mate mike cartwright and so many more-I\'d need pages to write all their names. My parents finally left in 1967. I loved that place.

My interest is a Scouting one. I know both Denis Hunt and Geoff Burns and also Pat Mobbs who was an Aden Girl Guide. I never was in Aden but I was in Cyprus at the time, my father working as a civilian at RAF Episkopi, 1961-1964.
While in the 53rd Cyprus Scouts an ex Patrol Leader from the Khormaksar Scouts joined us. His name was Ian Brown and he was around 14years old. This would be around 1963.
Later in 1967 I was at RAF Muharraq Bahrain and another Scouter from Steamer Point joined us. His name was Bob Tickner and he was an RAF policeman. Denis Hunt has recently tracked him down to Berlin.
My interest is that I am the offical Historian for British Scouts Abroad so I am always looking for Scouting history and memories.
I do have some more bits on Aden Scouting and its earlier days when I sort them out.

Comments: My dad Frank Lindley was in the RAF and I was very young when he was posted to Aden. I lived in Aden from the end of 1965 until June 1967 when we were evacuated, it was my 4th birthday the day we landed back in the UK.
Although very young I have quite vivid memories of some of the time that I spent in Aden. I attended kindergarten and can remember being taken there on a bus with armed guards.
I can also remember spending many days at the Lido, my mum (Jean Lindley) sitting in the shade and never going in the sea as she couldn't swim. We lived in a three storey block of flats and they were surrounded by a wire fence with barbed wire on top which was patrolled by armed guards.
There was a little Arab boy that would sit by the gate called Ali, do not know if this was his real name, we all called him Ali. One of my most vivid memory is I had this habit of climbing the fence on a regular basis and someone always had to go a fetch my mum to make me come down.
My dad eventually got called in front of his Commanding Officer over it. Unfortunately my dad passed away in 1989 and my mum in 1980,
I thereore have nobody that I can ask about what the address was that we lived at.
I have searched through my mum and dad\'s possessions to no avail. I do however have hundreds of slides taken when we were in Aden.

Comments: Can any one please help me. I am trying to piece together part of my life which is missing through family trauma. My family was stationed at khormaskar, late 60,s my father sgt john herbert bell, mother doreen (dorry)my sister bronwen, bothers howard and gareth
tragically my little sister amanda jayne died aged 3 in aden and was buried in silent valley. as turmoil had erupted locally only our parents we allowed to
attend the funeral. the family were then shipped off to a place called silver sands in mombasa, only to return to what i beleive was some sort of evacuation.
On return to uk my mother developed breast cancer and died. No one ever spoke of those days, and my family became fragmented. its too late to ask dad as he
now is in a nursing home with parkinsons so I have no RAF details. Now all these years later my mind still remains a black void. some words like ma alla,
flossy, steamer point echo in the dark, but all I remember from school was a teachers name called mrs lea as she through chalk and one day it hit me instead of
another child and I got up and went to her and hit her back (that caused me trouble). I was born in 1956 and seemed to remember struggling at school so would be in
a lower grade class I guess, in 1999 I found out why when I tried university and was told I had a significant learning disability and short term memory loss.
Prior to aden was plymouth and before that singapore I have only a couple of pictures as time amily moves have seen precious info disappear and its as
though all of my childhood has been shut out. I am sure any info about myself or family would have a tremendous benefit to my wellbeing.

Comments: I got linked to your site through the old Marconian website - wish I knew his name because I enjoyed his photos so much, brought back memories of my visits to Aden in 1963 and 1964 to be with my parents and also study in Al Bayoomi college, Sheikh Othman. I remember the uprising which interrupted my Education and forced me to go back to India.
I am not an OK but went into the site as my late father Mr. K.C. Elias, an Indian teacher, did a stint in the RAF Khormakser school when he first came to Aden in early 60s before moving to Aden Govt service. infact he made a lot of friends at the school and even went on to name my younger brothers Jerry and Tony after two colleagues he was close with. I don\'t expect anyone to remember him but I thought I would mention it.
Best wishes
Elias

Comments: I joined Isthmus School in 1961/1962 and left in 1963 to go to boarding school in England although my dad stayed
on as he worked for Aden Airways. I flew out several time afterwards to spend holidays with my dad. I have loads of
memories of Aden although I was quite young. I only remember one teacher his name was Mr Wilson and he had a daughter
who attended the school also her name was Anne Wilson. The only other classmate\'s name I can remember is Janet Gould.
We used to follow a tanker around the world then when it docked in Steamer Point they would hold a party
for us on the boat. (Wish I could remember its name).
I could go on forever but maybe another time.

Comments: I have just been advised of Khormaksar school site, so had to look it up. I went to Aden in June 1957 when I was 9 and returned home to UK April 1959 aged 11. I took the Murray House Test which I believe was the Services educational equivalent of the 11 Plus. I passed this and spent nearly 9 months in the grammar section of the Khormaksar Secondary school.
Memory fades sadly, but I remember having a great time in Aden and being very sad when we had to come home. In all that time, I have only ever met one person who spent time as a kid in Aden, and he went after I had left!!

Comments: Hello
My name is Ruth Irwin. When I lived in Aden I was Ruth Wilson
I went out to Aden I think in 1962 or 1963 and left I think in 1965,when I was 10. We sailed out of Aden in a P & O liner back to the UK.
I went to RAF Khormaksar Primary School, I had a younger brother Martin who was 2 years younger than me. I also had a brother Peter who was only a baby when we arrived.
My father was Wilf Wilson, he was in the Admiralty, and my mother Iris Wilson, she was a teacher in Aden.
We lived I think at the Isthmus.
I had a teacher at Aden called Mr Gallagher, I can remember liking him.
My best friend’s name was Rebecca. She used to have her hair in plaits tied up.
I live in Lincolnshire now, and am married to Geoff, a farmer. We have 3 children, James, 30, Katie 28, and Will who is 24.
I found this site when I was looking up Aden on the internet!
My email address is ruthirwin@btconnect.com

Comments: My father was in the RAF and was posted to Aden late \'56, he worked at the RAF hospital on Barrak Hill. Myself, sister, with Mum, arrived in Aden from March 1957 to October 1959. I attended the school during that period. Of particular memory are the sand-storms which blew up on odd occasions, the excitement of blocking the gaps under the schoolroom door and trying to stop the endless sand getting in!
I still have a book which on opening still has the particular sand in its pages.

Comments: My dad, Stan Bousher, was a helicopter
pilot with 26 sqn and had been posted to Aden several times before we (mum Jean and
brother Richard) joined him between '63 and '65. We were in flats in Maalla for a
few months before moving to married quarters in Khormaksar.
Richard and I went to chapel hil school before transferring to Khormaksar primary where I took the 11-plus.
I have extremely vivid and mostly happy memories of Aden which have been occupying
me a lot recently following dad's death last July. I have turned up a fair number of
'photo's of this time in his effects.

I was looking at the Twila Tanks in Crater. I attended Khormaksar school in the early 60\'s.
Wow, I never imagined there would be a website. We lived in Mallah and I remember
so clearly coming down stairs from our flat and having to move the goats out of the
way to get outside. Our flat was also next to a mosque, it took a while to get used
to the early morning wake-ups but in time I don't think we noticed it too much.

Comments: Hello!
My husband and I went out in August 1964 and the violence started in December '64 when a bomb was thrown into one of the living quarters in the officers areas. We were teachers for the Ministry of Overseas Development and I worked in the local schools at Aden Girls College and my husband worked at Khormaksar Secondary School, living on Maalla Strait. We were involved in the grenade attack, on page 182 of Return to Aden and left in the June of 1967, when all British teachers were evacuated.
Would love to hear from anyone who remembers us!

Comments: My father was a teacher in a RAF school in Khormakscar from 1965-67 (John Phillips). I was born in Steamer Point in June 1966. I was born the same day, in the same hospital as a boy called David Jones and his mother, Ruth Jones was also a teacher (she became my godmother). The Jones family and mine (John and Mavis Phillips) were from South Wales. We left as a family in June 1967 on a cruise ship. Apart from the above, I have no other information and no memories of my time in Aden. However, I feel a huge bond with the area and my parents used to tell me what a lovely place it was and what a wonderful time they had there. Does anyone remember my family?

Comments: I was in Aden from 1961-63, aged 10-12. Arrived on SS Salween after a 3 week voyage. Attended Chapel Hill school for one year, Then moved to the Khormaksar Secondary school. Was also in the Sea Scouts at Steamer Point. Very interesting to see all the photos - bringing back many memories.

Comments: I remember the school but I can only recall one of the teachers names. Brender Wrench.
I had started a motor trade apprenticeship when we were posted to Aden so it was back to school for me. It would seem that the teachers had all been briefed to keep an eye on me and come down hard on me if showed any sign of descent. I was not prepared for the reception that awaited me.
I was allowed to go to the MT section for pre vocational training where I remember WO Dewen? and CT Bradley. I remember the beach at Tarshine. There was a rough tent at the left where teenagers could do more or less as they liked. There was a floating pontoon anchored in the bay which we would capsize, much to the annoyance or the more mature bathers.

Comments: Great website which brings back lots of fond memories of my stay in Aden \'63-\'65.
Have applied to join as a member.
I will hve to poll members of my family to see if they have any photos of us whilst in Aden as I don\'t have any and will gladly upload them if there are any.
I don\'t remember many names from then but I do remember the schools and the places where we lived.
We first moved into 2 two bedroomed flats in Overton House on Malla Straight numbers 11 & 13 on the first floor over a Honda Motorcycle shop. It was next to the Chinese Restaurant just by the traffic lights by the angles intersection. We then moved to Khormaksar into what I think was called the Waterloo Cantonment and there we occupied one of the white semi-detached houses number 247B. The school in Khormaksar was acrodd the road that devided the married quarters from the main camp. The school that I went to when in Malla was up in the hills and we were taken there by bus with an armed escort.

Comments: I was in Aden as a kid in 1961/1962. We lived 8 Amersham House, Maalla and 43 Maktari Mansions, (the penthouse flat)Maalla above the Red Sea Annexe Shop and close to the Stim Factory. Dad was a Chief Tech at RAF Saltpans. I went to Steamer Point Primary and Khormaksar Secondary. I remember the Crescent, Elephant Bay, the Lido and HMS Sheba PO\'s Mess on a Sunday! We had a dog called Snitch. Mum worked at Naafi Shop opposite the flat. We had powdered jungle juice and salt tablets every day and could go to the Stim factory to order crates and get a free bottle while we waited. My sister was Marilyn and she just went to Steamer Point Primary. We holidayed Aden Airways to Mombasa. Fond memories as a child!!

On return to Aden, Dad took job as RSM to APL who became Federal Regular Army or vice versa, I forget which way round. We then lived in 418B AMQ Khormaksar. Went to Khormaksar junior and secondry schools. I was in a photo of the word ADEN. The saddle club was the love of my life, KOSB were thegroomsfirst time there then 9/12 Lancers came as grooms, one in particular Matt Lease was wonderful. I did try to find him some years ago but failed.

Hello, Im trying to find the location of the primary school I went to 1963-4.All I can remember is that it was on a hill and had barb wire around it and baboons sitting on the front steps, strange as it may sound, I do recall that there was another school nearby, a secondary I think. We kids were taken to school in bus with wire up the windows, and an armed guard at the front in civvy dress,I lived at Steamer Point at first, then a little while later moved to Malla, I remember bits and pieces, and would like to fill the gaps in hopefully, lots moreto tell, Yours sincerely, Mrs Lane.

Comments: Until this morning, I had no idea that this site existed!
I think the name, The OK Club, is brilliant and am very keen to hear about old friends.
Having said that, I\'m now not sure what to write! If I knew for certain that my old schoolfriends were on your books then I would be more confident.
My memories include walking up Shamsan, my sister getting married in the Registry Office in Crater, visiting the Tawela Tanks, membership of the Air Scouts, camping in Sheikh Othman gardens. Memories are starting to flood back.....!

Comments: Hello, When I joined the OK Club a few months ago, I was lucky enough to make contact with two old schoolfriends.
For some reason, I have lost their contact details and, even worse, their entry seems to have disappeared from your listings!
Do you still have any record of Chris Muskett and Tim Boyde ?
Any help you can give will be appreciated.

Comments: Hi
I lived in Aden (Crater City) in the late 1950s when my father (Queens Owns Buffs, UK) was stationed there. I attended primary school but can't recall the name (Pinpoint ?).
I would like to join your group but am concerned because my PC tells me that this website is not secure. Could you please provide reassurance.
Many thanks
David

Should anyone else be concerned about a similar 'warning' notice, please be assured that it relates only to the fact that we're not using the prefix 'https' in the site url. The actual site is very secure.
